The growing housing shortage in the Central Florida region and its effects on the housing need prompted Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs to gather partners from Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties and the City of Orlando to explore the merits of a broadly established affordable housing strategy.

" HUD Announces State of Florida to Receive $616 Million for Hurricane Irma Recovery Efforts:
The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced that the State of Florida will receive $616 million in funding to support long-term recovery efforts following Hurricane Irma through the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Program. This funding is designated to address needs that remain after other assistance has been exhausted, including federal assistance as well as private insurance. DEO is the lead agency and responsible entity for administering the CDBG-DR funds allocated to the State.
The purpose of this notice is to provide members with a copy of the Action Plan which will be used as a blueprint for distribution of these funds. Members are encouraged to review the entire action plan (follow this link). Another good source of information is the Florida Housing Coalition who has a dedicated page with updates. WORKSHOP #3

REGULATORY & FINANCIAL STRATEGIES FOR INCREASING AFFORDABLE HOUSING

The final workshop will build upon discussions from prior sessions, and it will focus on identifying regulatory mechanisms and monetary incentives that support production of affordable housing in select locations. The discussion of regulatory incentives will cover such strategies as inclusive community requirements, mixed-income neighborhoods, density bonuses, linkage fees, community land trusts, and transit-oriented development (TOD) options, among others. The second part of the workshop will provide an opportunity for a roundtable discussion with experts in the field of financial resources for affordable housing.
